Tess Pennington is the author of The Prepper’s Cookbook: 300 Recipes to Turn Your Emergency Food into Nutritious, Delicious, Life-Saving Meals.

When a catastrophic collapse cripples society, grocery store shelves will empty within days. But if you follow this book’s plan for stocking, organizing and maintaining a proper emergency food supply, your family will have plenty to eat for weeks, months or even years.

Tess Pennington, the founder of ReadyNutrition.com, was interviewed by Doctor Prepper. He learned that after graduating from college, Tess joined the Red Cross in 1999. Seeing that the Red Cross had contingency plans for everything, she realized how important it was to be prepared.  On 9/11, her Red Cross Chapter became the headquarters for dealing with the aftermath of that American tragedy.  Within a few hours, a command center was set up, volunteers came in by the droves, and the Chapter was ready, and it became a defining moment in her life––she realized the organization had the forethought to prepare, and it influenced her decision to put her own disaster plan into place. Being raised by a prepper (before the phrase was coined) in Houston TX where hurricanes would batter and bruise the coast every few years. Even as early as the 1980’s when Hurricane Alisha assaulted Houston, the family was ready for any situation to hit their area, the family was comfortably living at home as the neighbors were holed up in hotels!
