Presented by Jim Phillips Strategies for Protecting Yourself and Property from Wild Fires In parts of the eastern U.S. the challenge has been way too much rain resulting in saturated soil and floods. Here in the Intermountain West and Southwest it's just the opposite. A mild dry winter followed by a record dry spring has left the soil dry, culinary and irrigation water low, crispy dry vegetation and devastating wild fires. Our western wild fire season started more than a month early and already more acreage has burned than is sometimes seen in a whole year. The year 2012 promises to be a tough year for acreage lost and homes burned. There are things you can do to significantly reduce the risk. For new construction it's easy to implement various strategies, but what about existing homes. Can you really do more than just run and know that all may be lost? In this program I'll give you strategies that can make all the difference in the world. However, all of them have to be planned and implemented in advance. When the fire is a hundred yards away, it's too late. You need to already be gone and hope that your escape route in not cut off.
