9:00-10:00PM CT: Self-Reliant Living bySafe Harbor Alliance, hosted by Jim Phillips.

Guest:  Matthew Stein, author of When Technology Fails
When Technology Fails

“Technology will fail.  You can count on it ....  [We are in] a pattern of living so suffused with, and linked by powered tool and information systems, that we have become overwhelming as a species, but utterly vulnerable as individuals.”  So begins Mat Stein’s book, a strategy book on Jim’s must-have list.  But is serious technology failure leading to societal collapse really a possibility?  Aren’t such statements just talk designed to make people buy stuff?  Can’t we use technology to avert such an event?

When Technology Fails discusses some of the key issues we face and provides the needed information to form a plan of action.  We’ll explore how serious and imminent the problem is and then develop strategies you can implement, so you’ll not be swept away and destroyed by the events.

Matthew Stein is the author of the bestselling book When Technology Fails: A Manual for Self-Reliance, Sustainability and Surviving the Long Emergency, a comprehensive manual on sustainable living skills, survival, and disaster preparations. Stein is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he majored in Mechanical Engineering.
As the owner of Stein Design & Construction, he builds hurricane-resistant, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly homes. Mat is a design engineer and green builder. Among other things, he designed consumer water filtration devices, solar PV roofing panels, medical bacterial filters, emergency chemical drench systems, computer disk drives, and portable fiberglass buildings.
