9:00-10:00PM CT: Self-Reliant Living by Safe Harbor Alliance, hosted by Jim Phillips. Tuesday, August 23, 2011 Preparedness Radio Network (PRN) Online Audiocast, 8:00–9:00 p.m. MT Guest: Carol Deppe, author of The Resilient Gardener Becoming a Resilient Gardener for Uncertain Times Most people understand that preparing for the future will include some form of gardening. Unfortunately, most gardening books, classes, and peoples gardening experience is with hobby gardens, or, as Carol Deppe describes them, “good-times gardens.” Should the time come when eating or not eating and thriving or not surviving depends on what you and those around you produce, you’ll want to hear what the author of The Resilient Gardener has to say. Jim categories this book as a must-have for your library that you must read and gain experience with now. Carol will discuss her book and experiences about what you need to start doing now in order make it through difficult times. Learn about which foods to grow and why, along with how to store and use them. Carol Deppe is the embodiment of her book, The Resilient Gardener. She has a PhD in biology from Harvard University and has been experimenting with crops and gardening in Corvallis, Oregon since 1979. She is a freelance plant breeder specializing in developing public-domain crops for Oregon growing conditions, sustainable agriculture, and human survival. She is the author of three books: The Resilient Gardener: Food Production and Self-Reliance in Uncertain Times, Breed Your Own Vegetable Varieties: The Gardener’s and Farmer’s Guide to Plant Breeding and Seed Saving, and Tao Te Ching: A Window to the Tao through the Words of Lao Tzu.
