Rubén C. González, “The Mad Mexican,” is a television, film and stage actor with an impressive list of credits on his resume. He has appeared in such well-received films as “Selena,” and was also cast alongside Benjamin Bratt in “La Mission,” the 2009 release that was chosen as one of ten films by the Sundance Film Festival for inclusion in its inaugural cultural exchange initiative. His critically-acclaimed one-man shows have taken him around the globe, and he is in town for a performance of his latest, “La Esquinita, USA.” To see a complete list of work done by this “hidden gem” of a performer, you can go to his website here: http://rubencgonzalez.com/index.html. Rubén will be giving a command performance of “La Esquinita, USA,” as part of a fundraiser for La Peña Cultural Center in Berkeley, and the Oakland-based Homie’s Empowerment Program, which is a youth development program for gang-impacted and gang-involved youth. The play will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at La Peña. For more information, and to purchase advance tickets, you can go here: http://www.lapena.org/event/1681. We will talk to Rubén about some of his past work, his inspiration for “La Esquinita USA,” and his involvement in the community, among other things. Dr. Kathrina’s Navigations is proud to have Rubén as the show’s inaugural guest, and we will always consider him a friend of the show, and a part of our very large family.
