IRV MILJONER is the Director of the Long Island District Office for the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division. The agency enforces the Fair Labor Standards Act, which sets minimum wage, overtime, recordkeeping, and child labor rules, prevailing wage statutes, farm labor laws, the Family Medical Leave Act and other federal labor laws.
Irv started his federal career after a brief stint as a NYC Math teacher. He has 39 years of federal government service, with 21 years in the Labor Department’s Long Island office, where he’s been Wage Hour District Director for the past 19 years.
Irv has been recognized for his many public service, outreach, and mentorship activities, and leadership in forging partnerships with business organizations, non-profits, community and school groups, other government agencies, and professional associations on Long Island, for whom he is a frequent guest speaker. Irv has also lectured and instructed at area colleges, and is quoted and interviewed often by media, as the area’s pre-eminent expert on federal Wage and Hour laws.
Irv is the National VP of the Federal Managers Association - DOL chapter, for whose newsletter he writes a periodic human relations column.
He is a 2011 Martin Luther King Jr. Human Rights Award recipient, co-founder of an ongoing Holocaust 2nd Generation group, affiliated with Nassau County’s Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center, and is active in a variety of civic, charitable, and community affairs and non-profit Boards, including service on the Board of Directors of Literacy Nassau.
