Listen tonight to hear an interview and live reading from poet, Donna Snyder.
Donna Snyder’s poetry collections include Poemas ante el Catafalco: Grief and Renewal from Chimbarazu Press, I Am South from Virgogray Press, and The Tongue Has its Secrets from NeoPoiesis Press. Her writing has appeared in periodicals such as VEXT Magazine, Red Fez, Queen Mob’s Teahouse, la bloga, Miriam’s Well, BorderSenses, Puerto del Sol, the El Paso Times, and many others.
Snyder has read her work in Los Angeles, Boston, and New York City; in Denver, Colorado; in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, and elsewhere in New Mexico; in Austin, Terlingua, and other places in Texas; and in Sitka, Alaska.
Snyder worked as an activist attorney for over thirty years. Her advocacy on behalf of indigenous people, immigrant workers, and people with disabilities received various recognitions, including being named Outstanding El Paso Attorney by the local Mexican American Bar Association in 2012.
Believing that to give voice is an inherently political act, Snyder offers free, weekly writing workshops through the Tumblewords Project which she founded in 1995, and continues to organize its workshops and other events for the Borderlands community of Texas/Chihuahua/New Mexico.
