The mission of the International Reading Association is to promote reading by continuously advancing the quality of literacy instruction and research worldwide. International Literarcy Day! The Wednesday, September 9th, 2009 ILD event will be co-hosted by the Library of Congress (LOC) Center for the Book and held in the beautiful and historic Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress from 10:00 a.m. to noon. THINK ABOUT THIS: More than 780 million of the world’s adults (nearly two-thirds of whom are women) do not know how to read or write, and between 94 and 115 million children lack access to education.
