DISABLED RADIO believes that the resignation of NH State Representative Martin Harty was the correct action to take. Any politician who has that much disdain for a segment of his constituency can not fairly or effectively govern them. We are pleased that the outcry from the disabled community was heard by the powers that be. However, this unfortunate situation was just one more indication that the disabled community must be on continuous alert for anyone who makes these hurtful, ignorant, and insensitive comments. Far too many people do not see these comments as wrong. It seems that persons-with-disabilities are the only remaining minority to receive this negative treatment and it must stop! DISABLED RADIO is on the forefront of exposing anyone who thinks it is fine to single us out and not face condemnation. We hope this is only the beginning of the non-disabled learning a lesson in how to characterize our lives and our challenges, Please join DISABLED RADIO and The Fair Shake Movement on Thursday, March 17, 2011 from 8-10pm CDT on the Blog Talk Radio Network (www.blogtalkradio.com) to discuss the impact of these negative statements and outdated portrayals of persons-with-disabilities. Now is the time to act and not accept excuses, stereotypes, or negativity. To read our entire official statement on this issue please go to www.disabledradio.com.
