Thus far three have died, and sixteen more are injured, with the extent of injuries yet unknown. Whenever something like this happens, we inevitably can't help but start to tie in all sorts of emotionally charged political hot button issues. Generally guns and mental health/healthcare are the two that are guarenteed to come up from the left, and once again they did here, so we'll examine that. But furthermore, in this particular case we are also dealing with an Iraq vet, so foreign policy, specifically the Iraq war becomes another associated issue. Beyond that, we had the distgusting fascist/theocratic sounding off from the right the instant the shooting became news, with the assumption having been,  gee, something bad happened? Must have been one of those anti-American Muslims, let's go slaughter them all!!! So, we'll examine that as well. Classified: Do Not Read All About It: CIA and Torture Lies We TellThroughout the Bush years a dilema between national security and human dignity came to the forefront with the torture (ahem, I mean "enhanced interrogation") issue. Yet, a Senate Intelligence Committee report now seems to suggest that this choice was in fact a false one. How badly did we torture people, what did we gain from it, and how deceitful are the CIA's claims of what really happened? Today we light up the airwaves with this oldy, but goody, bringing you back to the days when terms like "surge" and "shock and awe" were more prevelant in our political discourse than "healthcare" or "immigration." 00:31:00The Dave Dickey Shownopolitics, government,CIA,torture, ehnhanced interrogationThroughout the Bush years a dilema between national security and human dignity came to the forefront with the torture (ahem, I mean "enhanced interrogation") isThings They Are A Changin'...And Will Change Even More: IPCC Warnings on Warminghttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/dickeynation/2014/03/31/things-they-are-a-changinand-will-change-even-more-ipcc-warnings-on-warmingPoliticshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/dickeynation/2014/03/31/things-they-are-a-changinand-will-change-even-more-ipcc-warnings-on-warming/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/dickeynation/2014/03/31/things-they-are-a-changinand-will-change-even-more-ipcc-warnings-on-warmingMon, 31 Mar 2014 15:30:00 GMTThings They Are A Changin'...And Will Change Even More: IPCC Warnings on WarmingAs everyone remains transfixed by the news of the day; be it the missing Malaysian airplane, Putin’s annexation of Crimea, the final day of Obamacare enrollment, or Chris Christie’s being exoneration from having personally shut down the GWM bridge, the world on which we depend continues to change in response to the ways we use it, unaware of any day to day topics its human inhabitants are currently thinking about. The way in which we humans acquire massive amounts of ancient stored energy to power our increasingly sophisticated, modern world ultimately produces gradual detrimental changes to the world in which we live. While this may be a long term problem that is too conceptual for most to care about or grasp the magnitude of, in the long term it is more important to the future prosperity of our species than any short term subject involving healthcare, territorial grabs, or anything else. Today, although it will go completely undetected by most, a vital portion of a crucial report was relapsed to the public pertaining to the one subject anywhere in the news today that will still matter 100, 500, 1,000 years from now. This under the radar news is the release of working section II of the IPCC’s fifth assessment report on climate change. Today, we will talk about what the IPCC is, what this report and this particular section of it is. Beyond that, we will be looking at a most basic, fourth grade level synthesis of what the surface level science of this all is, and what that means on a most basic level for our human future.   00:30:00The Dave Dickey ShownoIPCC,climate change, global warming, politics, progressive politicsAs everyone remains transfixed by the news of the day; be it the missing Malaysian airplane, Putin’s annexation of Crimea, the final day of Obamacare enrollmentNOOOO Noah!!!! How Politicized Response to "Noah" is What's Wrong USA     As the blockbuster "Noah"  debuted in theaters across the country these past few weeks, a hysterical outcry from angry Christian fundamentalists and militiant atheists alike has ensued. The polarization of people into distrusted and detested opposing "enemies" breaks us down not just within the meaningless world of pop culture, but also in the crucial political arena.Seemingly no divisive force drives us further politically apart from unified solution building than differing religious oreintations. Furthermore, seemingly no issue which holds as much potential to do harm to the people of our world, as the human impact on enviornment (and most specifically climate) does, is more shunned by religious conservatives as an issue we need not address because it is some sort of "alternative to religion" promoted by the "secular world."       Today we talk about where the attitudes towards the movie "Noah" eminate from, and what we can learn from them as it pertains to what it will take to gather the poltical will to accept the reality of, and push for solutions to, the most daunting long term problem our world, our species, and it's political entites face. 00:31:00The Dave Dickey ShownoNoah, climate change, enviornment, global warming, politicsAs the blockbuster "Noah"  debuted in theaters across the country these past few weeks, a hysterical outcry from angry Christian fundamentalists and militiThe Numbers Behind the Politics: Evaluating the Impact of Obamacare Round 1http://www.blogtalkradio.com/dickeynation/2014/03/29/the-numbers-behind-the-politics-evaluating-the-impact-of-obamacare-round-1Politicshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/dickeynation/2014/03/29/the-numbers-behind-the-politics-evaluating-the-impact-of-obamacare-round-1/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/dickeynation/2014/03/29/the-numbers-behind-the-politics-evaluating-the-impact-of-obamacare-round-1Sat, 29 Mar 2014 21:00:00 GMTThe Numbers Behind the Politics: Evaluating the Impact of Obamacare Round 1The gap between the American budget and the price of healthcare has long left a significant portion of the nation without health insurance coverage. For decades, dating back to the days off Harry Truman, politicians bantered about the hope of legislative reform to make healthcare and thus health insurance more affordable and, by extension, more accessible for more people. Yet, the timing was never right, as the political will could not be mustered to get any sort of reform passed into law...until 2009. Despite this being a problem that dates back to the WWII era, it was not until the 2009 healthcare reform that we tried to do something about it. Now that we have this law, and its major component (the subsidized individual insurance market) was implimented in October 2013, we can evaluate how the first insurance enrollment season (October-March) faired. Has "Obamacare" done more good or harm, and what are the good and bad outcomes we've seen? Furthermore, what can be done in addition to or in place of this inagural attempt to fix our age old healthcare problem to more completely and effectively solve the larger, overall problem? Today we will talk about the statistics from this first post-ACA enrollment period, what they mean, and what comes next.   00:31:00The Dave Dickey Shownohealthcare, health insurance, healthcare reform,Obamacare,ACAThe gap between the American budget and the price of healthcare has long left a significant portion of the nation without health insurance coverage. At the heart of the discussion we look at the psychological worldview that states things we don't know, trust, or like need to be dealt with swiftly and violently, and how this view molds the conservative obsession with guns, as something far more than a tool for self-defense. We also examine why it is that any and all attempts to make gun manufacturing, sales, and ownership safer and more responsible  are viewed as the first step to a hostile government takeover, and how this delusional, paranoia leads to an insurmountable impass for progress. Finally, we'll look at just how exactly "the Second Ammendment" has been turned into a wedge "issue" and a tool of demogagory, as though there's a political wing that wants to get rid of it or take your guns. 00:30:00The Dave Dickey Shownopolitics, campaign commercials,2014 MIDTERMS,Democrat,RepublicanToday we discuss the subliminal and implicit messaging found in a Tea Party campaign ad from Alabama, and the broader importance of understanding what exactly iScalia, Sebelius, SCOTUS, and Sex: Hobby Lobby's Day in Courthttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/dickeynation/2014/03/27/scalia-sebelius-scotus-and-sex-hobby-lobbys-day-in-court-1Politicshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/dickeynation/2014/03/27/scalia-sebelius-scotus-and-sex-hobby-lobbys-day-in-court-1/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/dickeynation/2014/03/27/scalia-sebelius-scotus-and-sex-hobby-lobbys-day-in-court-1Thu, 27 Mar 2014 15:30:00 GMTScalia, Sebelius, SCOTUS, and Sex: Hobby Lobby's Day in CourtWith the landmark healthcare reform legislation of 2009 came the contaceptive mandate.
