Universal Mindfulness  

Good day, and welcome to Universal Mindfulness. Christie Marie and John Sweet will be here for the hour and we will start things off with introducing ourselves to the audience. Christie will talk with John about his path and how he has arrived to his place in life today. Next week we will talk with Christie on the same topic. Feel free to call in with any questions, or if you would like to read a piece of poetry we wont mind being interrupted. See ya'll there!

We will explore and discuss how two different philosophies meld and work together; Buddhism and Christianity. We will discuss nonviolence, considering the seeds of love, understanding, compassion, and personal transformation which have grown into the flowers of Buddhism and Christianity. We believe that the enlightenment of the Buddha and the loving kindness of Christ are kept alive when each of us dwells in the moment. "To take good care of yourself and to take good care of living beings and of the environment is the best way to love God."-Thich Nhat Hahn We will also look deeply into mindfulness, presence, gratitude, the touching of our ancestors, and other practices which are the jewels of these two spiritual traditions. One can live a life as a Living Buddha &, Living Christ . Join Christie and I as we celebrate the best within Buddhism and Christianity.

I waved at my shadow
    urging him along.
“It’s ok, the day is burning away.”
 --evening bends the day and folds
    it away for tomorrow---
Pivoting, my eyes are cast forward on &
    my feet need little urging,
unlike my friend that trails behind,
    soon the miles become minutes
and I am found standing
    standing
        still.
If the Earth were flat I would be able to
    see everything span before me
&I breathe just to breathe,
    looking around--
I see the curve of the Earth, distorting
    my sight; refracting the sunset
to color my imagination,
    painting my dreams of this world
upon the iris of my imagination,    
    -beauty purity truth fall down-
crashing, riding the streams of my awareness
    & there is
no time to falter,
    yet I stand
still and breathe;
    whistling through my teeth,
like the wind in the trees that beckons  
    -singing in my head-
Angels that used to visit my sleep
    as a child, tickle the nape of
my neck with feather’d kisses
    & I shiver
standing still,
    breathing
& I wish that I knew how to dance
    & play in the fields of
my childhood fantasies--once again.    
The sun has almost found its resting place,
    & all at once all the ghosts of
my future stand beside me--playfully
    begging me to slowly follow,
& I wonder if I should wait or play,
    knowing that my destiny
is only a tomorrow away.
    “Stay behind and be with me--
just be in this moment”    
    & I stop short for the familiar voice
to speak again.
    Listening
Standing
    Still
    Breathing.
Waiting.
    Darkness covers the moist ground
bringing alive nocturnal life and sound
    & I listen intently
to the fading sound of my own voice
    trailing behind my footsteps
almost out of range, in-audible
    yet lingering
for me to stay still,
    for the future is only
a day away.
