Mwaura has served as Consultant Regional Program coordinator, Gender and youth development program for African Union of the Blind (AFUB) and has been an active human rights campaigner and consultant within the Kenyan civil society initiatives such as the Uraia program, the National Civil society congress, ILO, UNDP and other local NGOs.He has also worked as a Program Development Advisor on Human Rights Based Approach for Voluntary Services Overseas in Papua New Guinea. Mwaura is an Alumni of Kenyatta University BEd (Special Education and French studies). He also holds a diploma in Theology from the Presbyterian University of East Africa and is currently pursuing a higher national diploma with the same institution,Further, he has completed his postgraduate diploma in Public Relations Management at the Kenya Institute of Management holds a Masters degree in Development Studies from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in South Africa. Mwaura is also a political Activist having been elected as Secretary for disability affairs in the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) political party.Mwaura is the coordinator of Albinism Society of Kenya and successfully served as a Director in the Board of the first National Council for Persons with disabilities for three years 2004-2007.He is currently the Special Interest Groups Advisor in the office of the Prime Minister and also pursuing a 2nd MA in Public Policy at University of Leeds UK
