East African member states have received equipment worth over shs800 million to speed up the regional arms marking process and help to control proliferation of illegal small arms in the region. The equipment which includes seven arms marking machines, five vehicles , office equipment and other small arms control machines were bought through the European Union funded Conflict Prevention and Management Resolution programme. When handing over the equipment at the regional offices in Arusha, EAC Council of Ministers, Hafsa Mossi said the consignment is to help the member countries beat the December 2011 deadline of the arms marking process and match the security challenges facing the region.
