President Mwai Kibaki has today suspended Dr Wilfred Machage from the office of Assistant Minister following Machage’s court appearance on Wednesday on charges of hate speech. Also Dr Machage will remain suspended pending determination of the hate speech case in court. President Kibaki on Thursday evening reinstated four Permanent Secretaries who had been suspended following completion of investigations by the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission. In a statement to newsrooms, the President said he had lifted the suspensions of Dr Mohamed Isahakia (Office of the Prime Minister), Dr Romano Kiome (Ministry of Agriculture), Prof Karega Mutahi and Mr Ali Dawood Mohammed. He also announced a reshuffle that would move Prof Mutahi to the office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Ministry of Local Government, Prof James Ole Kiyiapi to the Education Ministry and Ms Mary Ngari to the Ministry of Development of Northern Kenya and Other Arid Lands. Other changes include Mr Ali Dawood Mohamed's appointment to the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources, Dr Kibicho Karanja to the Ministry of Industrialisation, Mr Lawrence Lenayapa to the Ministry of Development of Northern Kenya and Other Arid Lands, Mr Andrew A. O. Mondoh to the Ministry of State for Special Programmes, Ms Leah Gwiyo to the Ministry of Tourism and Prof John Lonyangapuo to the Ministry of Public Works. Mr Caroli Omondi remains Principle Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister following his reinstatement.
