Topic: Life of a career counsellor turned internet businessman.
I had no intention of becoming an internet businessman but that’s the way things turned out. I think it’s an interesting story. I taught psychology at college for 10 years then quit to become the director of training at a hospital in Victoria – after 6 months I knew I didn’t like the job but was puzzled as to why.
After almost 5 years I gave myself the mbti and found I was an ENFP – and the penny fell – it wasn’t the job and it wasn’t me – it was the lack of fit between what the job needed and what I naturally preferred to do.
So, I quit and went into the training and consulting business.
After 10 years of using the mbti in my workshops I wanted to talk to them about putting it online – they wouldn’t even talk to me so since I had psychometrics training at the PhD level – I started on the journey of creating my own type indicator and in 1997 incorporated the TypeFocus Internet company that provides online personality type assessment tools.
