Voters can now go to the polls for Early Elections for the Primary Season. I want to tell you who I am endorsing for Mayor and City Commission Districts #1, #3 and #5.I AM ENDORSING DAVID SANTIAGO FOR DELTONA MAYOR.Voters have the opportunity to elect a new mayor and drastically change the course of the past five years under Mayor Dennis Mulder. David Santiago is the former city commission and former vice mayor from District 2. Santiago's platform includes lowering taxes by eliminating wasteful spending, creating a safer community by adding more deputies and jobs for our people by getting government out of the way of prosperity. His opponent, John Masiarczyk, has no plan to lower taxes. In fact, the Daytona Beach News Journal claims Masiarczyk said that the idea that we can have lower taxes is "wishful thinking." Masiarczyk, the first mayor of Deltona, has remained most silent on most of the issues which is typical of the way that he campaigns. It is noteworthy that Masiarczyk has 40 years of public service in Deltona; however, during his reign as the business community rejected his restrictive policies and located in Orange City. Many of Masiarczyk's ideas are outdated and he hasn't proposed any new ideas.Santiago's other opponent, Robert Desmond, has no experience in elected office although he has participated in several unsuccessful bids for election. It seems to me that Desmond should have run for commissioner and gotten some experience prior to running for mayor.I AM ENDORSING ZENAIDA DENIZAC FOR DELTONA CITY COMMISSION DISTRICT #1.Zenaida Denizac is the incumbent in District 1. She has opposed many of the controversial and unpopular initiatives of current Mayor Dennis Mulder. She voted against suing the citizens. She voted against removing prayer. She has not supported much of Mulder's tax and spend policies. She has represented the citizens with integrity. She deserves to be re-elected.Michael Richards, her opponent, is a sharp young man. I like him a lot. He simply needs more life experience. Her other opponent, Jacinto Garcia, simply has not made a case for being elected as city commissioner. For example, he has failed to address the issues of lower taxes, law enforcement and jobs choosing instead to focus on issue such as recycling. That simply shows me that he is out of touch.I AM ENDORSING HEATHER MITCHELL FOR DELTONA CITY COMMISSION DISTRICT #3.Heather Mitchell has a firm grasp of the issues regarding lower taxes and conservative thinking in government. I remember interviewing her during a talk show. She did not waiver with her smaller government is better ideology. Her opponent Heidi Herzberg spoke out during last year's tax season in support of Mulder's failed attempt to creat a new tax (Fire Special Assessment District). Mulder was attempting to scare the public into thinking we needed a new tax in order to continue providing fire services. We all know now that Mulder had to admit that the city overtaxed us $3.5 million. Despite this recent revelation, Herzberg spoke out against returning the $3.5 million to taxpayers. She wanted to earmark that for other spending intiatives. Her other opponent Randy Kough says he is a conservative; however, his idea to spend taxpayer dollars to improve private property is not a conservative idea. We do not need to expand government into improving private property.I AM ENDORSING FRED LOWRY FOR DELTONA CITY COMMISSION DISTRICT #5.Fred Lowry is a breath of fresh air. He has a great deal of leadership experience as the head of one of Deltona's largest churches, Deltona Lakes Baptist Church. He is definitely supporter of conservative values: lower taxes, more deputies, and, encouraging jobs by reducing government interference. He has a great deal of support having upwards of 80 plus individuals involved in his effort to get elected. I choose Fred for 5.The incumbent, Janet Deyette, has been a disaster. The sum up her term of office: She supported Mulder almost each step of the way. She is a tax and spend politician. In my opinion she hasn't seen a tax dollar she doesn't like to spend. She supported Mulder's failed bid to create a new tax (Fire Special Assessment District). She voted for the increase in water taxes which will amount to a 120% increase over a five year period. She voted to sue the citizens with taxpayer dollars who criticized her. I could go on and on. It is difficult to find even one thing that she has done positive for Deltona.Fred has a lot of other opponents: Rafael Valle, David McKnight, Wilfredo Sanchez, and Victor Ramos. Valle is a long term Deltona resident and former member of the planning an zoning board. McKnight has been active serving on advisory boards and various leadership positions with local charities. Ramos has a great message. Sanchez is a very nice guy who seems to understand what public service means. Each of them are honorable gentlement; however, none of them have been able to muster the viability of Fred Lowry. There is one thing to say about Valle, McKnight, Sanchez and Ramos...they are not Janet Deyette. Everyone of them would be better than Deyette. But, we don't have to accept the "Anybody But Deyette" mantra. Fred is actually a viable candidate with viable ideas.Thank you for allowing me to share with you my picks for Deltona Mayor and City Commission.
