“In America hospitals alone, healthcare-associated infections account for an estimated 2 million infections and 100,000 associated deaths each year.”
Patient Safety culture is in a decline, infection rates are high and the leadership of some of our so called top hospitals knows that there is a serious problem, but is doing nothing to rectify the problem. Nurses and doctors are complaining of this problem, turnover rate is high, but why do you think this is not a problem to those who run the hospital?
The answer is unaccountability. Hospital problems are mainly out of sight and not talked about until a major scandal come out. Medicare has recently required hospitals to begin reporting infection rates, but that is still minor, for we still have to trust in self-reported data that is not accurate.
Hospitals are financially rewarded to continue providing dangerous service. Hospitals have no accountability system and are able to do as they please.
