    Ken Bass - Landstrike

    Category: Books

    Call-in Number: (347) 308-8745

Landstrike is the fictional story of a major hurricane striking New York City. This is a potential disaster that the federal government has long had on its "top ten" list of worst natural disasters likely to occur in the future. Many experts have said it is "inevitable" that a major hurricane will strike the city.

Landstrike follows fictional hurricane Nicole from its formation in the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa through its catastrophic rampage up the Hudson River many days later, and the aftermath as New Yorkers of all social strata struggle to survive in the storm's aftermath. The St. Augustine Record, in its review, said Landstrike read like "future history."

Kate said, "Loved your book. It kept me thinking, long after I closed the pages, about the what if's & how's, etc. It has a very subtle way of getting under your skin or should I say, into your brain. Not only was it a good story as far as the entertainment factor was concerned, but it has a weird way of opening one's eyes to the catastrophic possibilities. Very clever."

This is a page turner and if you live in or near an area that could has hurricanes, tornadoes or earthquakes, you will be interested in this story.

EXPERT: Tracy Needham - Compelling Communications

7 Deadly Sins of Web Copy If you’re sending prospects and driving traffic to a website that isn’t convincing people to buy or subscribe, you’re just throwing money away. And it’s the WORDS on the page—also called “copy”—that can make all the difference. Because what you say and how you say it is what ultimately drives people to contact and hire you. Join us to find out which of these all-too-common deadly sins are stopping your website from making you more money. We’ll discuss… • What Jerry Maguire can teach us about capturing visitors’ attention • The #1 mistake companies large and small make that actually repels sales • The biggest worry your prospects have and how to zap it • And more! Bio: For more than five years, Tracy Needham’s been writing copy and marketing materials for entrepreneurs & small businesses that do the selling for you--by getting your prospects' attention, showing them you have the perfect solution for their problem, and persuading them to take the next step. She also helps businesses get more clients with marketing strategies that make better use of your time and money. Prior to launching her business Compelling Communications, she spent nearly 10 years in marketing communications in the Washington, D.C. area, including five years at a mutual fund company—after a few years in the “unreal” world of politics. She’s got a Master’s in PR from Boston University College of Communication and is co-author of the award-winning book Conscious Entrepreneurs: A Radical New Approach to Purpose, Passion & Profit. A little over 2 ½ years ago, she decided she’d had enough of the D.C. circus and wanted to be closer to family, so she relocated to Raleigh with her two “All American” dogs.

Bearta Powell - Orphans of War

"When I was five, my parents died leaving behind five young children. Because of continuous religious and political conflicts, we lost our parents and virtually every relative, but we gained brothers and sisters at the orphanage that took us in. Through anything that came our way - death, war, hunger, misery, rejection, failure, and happiness, we were there for each other. Our unbreakable bond, support, and love for each other, but most importantly our love of God, helped us grow stronger as we searched for the positive in the remnants of each experience . . . no matter how horrific. Though I was born in Lebanon, I immigrated to the United States when I was nineteen years old. My sixteen year old sister made the journey with me. I am an American and I say that both proudly and modestly. Despite my childhood, I have learned the power of human resolve. I have learned that people are not only shaped by the fragmented remains of their past, but also by the promise of their future. I live in Raleigh North Carolina and have a belly dancing business. I have an incredible family. I have three beautiful boys that know only of war-torn Lebanon through my stories and battle-scarred photographs. I have a supportive husband who gives me comfort when memories swell up and paralyze me with remembrance. Though I am proud to have received my Bachelors of Art in Business from North Carolina State University, raising my sons as proud Americans while honoring their heritage has been my greatest joy. I am grateful to America, for she has given me new memories and the resolute strength of a survivor."
