Steven "Catfish" McDaris (born 1953) is an American poet and author who is often associated with Allen Ginsberg. He is also notable for having collaborated with Charles Bukowski. “Dave Reve, the editor of Zen Tattoo, suggested the nom de plume "Catfish" after McDaris admitted that he wanted to quit his job at the post office to start a catfish farm. He recently retired from the post office after 34 years of service
Catfish McDaris won the Thelonius Monk Award in 2015. He has been published in the Louisiana Review, George Mason Univ.Press, and New Coin from Rhodes University in South Africa. He’s recently been translated into French, Polish, Swedish, Arabic, Bengali, Tagalog, Chinese, Yoruba, and Esperanto. His 25 years of published material is in the Special Archives Collection at Marquette Univ. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He’s listed in Wikipedia.
