Do you think parents who tell other parents of their kids' strengths and achievements do it to show off? To assert their superiority? Do you think there's an element of competition behind sets of parents boasting about each of their kids' strengths/achievements to each other? Is it just a social nicety to talk about your kids to an/other parent/s and to display interest in theirs? Are parents living vicariously through their children here? You don't have to answer any of these questions, but they should act as guidelines for discussion. I'm a parent myself, so there'll definitely be things I'm equipped to comprehed right now, but I do also understand that having a mother who tell everyone she meets that I've won some awards, I'm enrolled at one of the best institutions in the country, and various other things that are, to me and not them, less important. So there is a fine line between being happy and living through your child.
