TEXT: Matthew 5:38-42
Francis Bacon said, "In taking revenge, a man is but even with his enemy; but in passing it over, he is superior."
Jesus' interpretation of the "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" law goes contrary to human nature. However, once we are saved, we have the power of the Holy Spirit to "resist not an evil person" who attacks us on account of our faith. But Jesus commands us to go even further. Not only does he tell us to not resist the harm that others intend to do to us, but he tells us to extend our charity to those who do us harm at the point of injury. "Whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also."
