TEXT: Matthew 5:33-37
In this part of his Sermon On the Mount, Jesus tackles serious laws that the Jews were supposed to live by. The Jewish religious teachers accused Jesus of trying to undermine the Law. But Jesus takes the Law and shows the people how it was the religious teachers themselves who were not fulfilling the spirit of the Law as God intended. He has done this with murder, with adultery, and with divorce. Now, he turns to another issue, that of oath-making or swearing.
