TEXT: Philippians 3:17-21

This is an uncomfortable subject for many of us, but if you listen and take heed, this particular series can not only change your life spiritually, but it can save your life physically.

According to the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, "Compared with a nonobese person, an obese person incurs $2,741 more in medical costs annually."

Some aspects of our culture aid and abet those of us who are overweight when it comes to glorying in our shame. Every 4th of July, there are hot dog eating contests across the nation. We applaud the man who can stuff himself with the most hot dogs in ten minutes. There is a Major League Eating organization that oversees eating competitions. (And they soothe our conscience by saying the proceeds of such events go to charity.)
