TEXT: Matthew 5:13-16
The Greek poet Horace famously wrote, "We are but dust and shadows." The apostle James declared that our lives "are but a vapor that appears for a little while and then passes away." Both of those statements highlight the fragility and transience of life. Some would say that these words amplify the perspective that life is futile. But, we find in this passage that, once one becomes a part of the body of Christ, he is no longer dust and shadow, no longer a vapor that passes away. He is something more -- salt and light!
