TEXT: Matthew 5:1-12
The last verse of Jesus' beatitudes tell us how we ought to live in a world in which the values that Jesus preaches are not standard practice. If we obey these laws of supreme blessing, we will stand out as a "peculiar people." And, being peculiar, being different than the world sets a target on our backs. The devil will try to drag us down, people in the world will ostracize us for not going along with the system, and even carnal Christians will snub us because our godly behavior makes them look bad. In some cases, the Christian will face outright persecution.
