Ephesians 6:10-17: "...and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

Thomas a Kempis said, "Fight like a good soldier and if you sometimes fall through weakness, rise again with greater strength than before, trusting in God’s most abundant grace."

Leonard Ravenhill said, "Many of us are hunting mice while lions devour the land."

Today, we are going to continue looking at the sixth piece of armor -- the sword of the Spirit. The Bible tell us to take "the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

Because our weapon is the Word, we must take time to study it and learn it so we can use it effectively in our daily life. However, we must not just have it in our head, but in our heart. That is the place where the Word of God must really be built up. We must be diligent about opening our hearts to what we read in Scripture.

It is good to read what others have written about the Bible. However, the Word of God is not just a history book. It is a living book that we are meant to take to heart and apply to our lives even today. We must remember that we have the greatest religious teacher living inside of us -- the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised that this third person of the Trinity will teach us and explain to us “all things.”

We must submit to the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit as we read the Bible. That is God speaking directly to our hearts and lives through His Word. He will show us how certain situations in Scripture apply to our temptations and the spiritual conflicts that we face each day. The Holy Spirit will train us in how to use the Word of God as a sword against the devil.
