The Bible says in Matthew 16:27: "For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works."

PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: "Where the Dead Are Now (Part 10)" from Dr. Tim LaHaye

The message of Sheol-Hades can be put into one word—a word found in Luke 16:30. The rich man in Hades pleaded with Abraham to send Lazarus back to life to warn the rich man's five brethren. What was it that the rich man anxiously wished Lazarus to tell his brothers to do? Repent. He said, "If one goes to them from the dead, they will repent."

If it were possible for a departed soul to return from Hades to give one last message to his living loved ones, it would be the same message that the rich man wanted to give to his brothers—REPENT so that you might avoid this awful place. The greatest tragedy in the world is not that Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross, but that men and women have heard the message that Christ died to save them from Hades and hell but have rejected it, refusing to repent and believe on Him. In spite of the fact that Christ has died for them, they will spend eternity in torment. To activate the eternal effects of God's forgiveness of sins through the death of His Son, a person must call on the name of the Lord and be saved. There is no other way—and no second chance.
