PROPHECY BOOTCAMP: "When Resurrected Christians Meet Their Lord (Part 2)" from Dr. Tim LaHaye

Because we are saved “by grace through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast,” many Christians think there is little or no call on their life to serve our Lord. Consequently, they accept His salvation as a gift and do nothing to advance His kingdom. Unfortunately, they do not read on to the following verse, which says: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

It is obvious from this passage that the Lord expects His children to work for Him after they have been given salvation. In fact, we will be rewarded in the next life in direct proportion to the way we have served Him in this one.

Although the gift of salvation is freely given by a generous God, we are expected, once saved, to serve our Lord by doing good works. A good work can be anything done in the name of the Lord or for His glory. It could be witnessing, worshiping Him, or even giving a cup of cold water to someone.

In His parables, Jesus compares Himself to a householder (landowner) or even a king who went on a long journey and, after a great while, returned -- at which time he demanded of his servants an accounting and gave rewards according to their faithfulness, talent, and time spent in labor.
