1. According to The Associated Press, An Israeli military official says Israeli forces have hit a target inside Syria that was the source of mortar fire into the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The official said that at least three shells landed near the Syrian frontier the previous evening, causing no injuries.

2. According to The Jerusalem Post and Reuters, the Tamarod (“Rebellion”) movement in Egypt has joined a campaign calling to stop US aid to Egypt, and to cancel the 1979 Camp David peace treaty with Israel. The campaign is in response to what has been called “unacceptable” US interference in Egyptian political affairs, after US President Barack Obama decided to cancel a joint drill with the Egyptian military in response to the outbreak of violence in the country earlier this week.

3. According to ITN and the Associated Press, a government news agency says the death toll in flooding in China‘s northeast and southeast has risen to 43 and that landslides have blocked a major train line.

4. According to Reuters, Iran’s outgoing nuclear chief was quoted as saying by Iranian media that the country has installed 18,000 uranium-enrichment centrifuges.

5. According to the Christian Post, Islamists burned down a Christian school, paraded three nuns on the streets like “prisoners of war,” and sexually abused two other female staff even as at least 58 attacks on Christians and their property were reported across Egypt over the last four days.
