TEXT: Judges 16:15-20

We often hear of people who destroy their own lives. This past week three people won an almost $450 million lottery. For many people, winning the lottery is a dream come true. However, this dream often turns into a nightmare. Lottery winners often go bankrupt, get divorced, and have family feuds. Financial advisors say the reality is that 70 percent of all lottery winners will squander away their winnings in a few years. In the process, they will see family and friendships destroyed and the financial security they hoped for disappear.” You will find many lottery winners now living in poverty. How astounding is it that something that could have been such a blessing turns into a curse and destroys a person’s life.

The Bible tells us about a man named Samson who was destined for greatness before he was conceived. He was chosen by God to deliver Israel out of the hands of their enemies, the Philistines. He was a Nazarite set apart for service to God. His parents were given strict orders on how he was to be raised. His mother, while she was pregnant with him, was not allowed to drink wine or anything unclean. The Bible tells us that as Samson grew, God blessed him.
