1. According to NBC News, a major uptick in sectarian violence which has killed about 2,000 people since April 1st has sparked fears that Iraq is heading for a full-scale civil war that could draw in powerful regional rivals Iran and Saudi Arabia. There are already signs that the current conflict is starting to merge with the bitter fighting in Syria, creating a war zone from the Mediterranean Sea to the Persian Gulf.

2. According to The Times of Israel, the Israeli military held a large-scale, surprise drill on Sunday that simulated three concurrent major terror attacks on Israeli soil, including a hostage situation. Although the exercise was planned and prepared for a year in advance, the exact date was not set and it was conducted as a surprise exercise for the participating soldiers.

3. According to Reuters, once shrouded in secrecy, Israel's David's Sling anti-missile system went on display for the first time last week at the Paris Air Show. It is designed to protect Israel from midrange missiles.

4. According to Morning Star News, six more Christians were sentenced for practicing their faith last week, while Iran's presidential election of a moderate politician was not expected to soften the regime's persecution of religious minorities. While there has been optimism that the election of Rou-ha-ni and promises of reform will bring greater freedoms for persecuted religious minorities in Iran, some analysts say little will change as long as Supreme Leader Kha-me-nei controls the country's political destiny.
