1. According to the Associated Press, North Korea vowed to launch a pre-emptive nuclear strike against the United States, amplifying its threatening rhetoric as the U.N. voted on new sanctions against the country for its recent nuclear test.

2. According to the BBC, South Korea's military has warned that it will respond to any provocation from North Korea after their threat to scrap the Korean War peace agreement. The South Korean army promised "resolute retaliations" if South Korean lives were threatened.

3. According to The Associated Press, the United Nations said that 21 peacekeepers in the force charged with monitoring the cease-fire between Israel and Syria on the Golan Heights were detained by approximately 30 armed Syrian rebels.
