Our prayer motivator verse for today is 2 Chronicles 7:14 which reads: "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

Our prayer motivator quote today is from S.D. Gordon. He said, "It may sound strange, but in its simplest meaning prayer has to do with conflict. Rightly understood it is the deciding factor in a spirit conflict...Prayer is man giving God a footing on the contested territory of this earth."

Our prayer motivator devotional today is part 40 of our series titled "HINDRANCES TO PRAYER" from Dr. John R. Rice.

Self-will, Rebellion, and Disobedience Hinders Prayer

Dear Christian, I am probing in your heart and life trying to help you find the reasons for unanswered prayer. What sin of yours hinders your prayers and shuts out the blessing God would give you?

Self-will is another horrible sin which means that God cannot have His way in your life and cannot give you His best.

I recall the case in Saul, the first king of Israel, who was commanded to go out and utterly destroy the Amalekites. God said to him in 1 Samuel 15:3, "Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass!" If that seems to you a hard command, then I remind you that you do not hate sin as God does. This wicked, idolatrous nation had long deserved extermination...
