1. According to Religion News Service, more than a third of Americans believe the severity of recent natural disasters is evidence that we are in the "end times" described in the New Testament -- a period of turmoil preceding Jesus' Second Coming and the end of the world. 

2. According to The Times of Israel, a new poll shows that for the first time since 2006, more West Bank Palestinians support the militant approach of Hamas as opposed to that of Fatah and its leader, Mah-moud Abbas. 

3. According to Reuters, Syrian Vice President Farouq (FA-ROOK) al-Sha-raa has told a Lebanese newspaper that neither the forces of President Ba-shar al-Ass-ad nor the rebels can win the war in Syria. The newspaper released only limited excerpts from the interview, and it was far from clear that Sha-raa’s comments represented the view of the government. 

4. According to Agence France-Presse, the death toll from a typhoon that ravaged the southern Philippines in early December has risen to more than 1,000 and could go higher. 

5. According to The Times of Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the Western Wall and the State of Israel will forever belong to the Jews.
