Our fasting quote of encouragement today is from Andrew Bonar. He said: "We must continue in prayer if we are to get an outpouring of the Spirit. Christ says there are some things we shall not get, unless we pray and fast, yes, 'prayer and fasting.' We must control the flesh and abstain from whatever hinders direct fellowship with God."

Our fasting devotional today is titled "FIVE STEPS TO A SUCCESSFUL DANIEL FAST" (PART 36) from Susan Gregory, author of the bestselling book "The Daniel Fast".

Determine What You Will and Will Not Eat During the Daniel Fast (part 3)

When we eat food, our bodies secrete digestive enzymes to break down the food into simpler components. These elements then move into the cells that line our digestive tract so the nutrients can travel into the bloodstream for distribution throughout the body to meet the needs of life.

Each time we consume food, we take in not only the good nutrients that our bodies need, but also additives and toxins that may be hitchhiking in the foods. God designed our amazing bodies so that the elements that are not suitable for health are filtered out by the digestive tract, the liver, the kidneys, and other organs. This process also takes away non-nutrient matter, such as by-products of digestion, bacterial waste from the decomposition of inadequately digested foodstuffs, and excess nutrients the body can't use. So our physical systems work hard to remove what is not useful. To make things worse for our bodies, when we eat food loaded with chemicals and toxins, overeat, and don't chew our foods properly, we are taxing our digestive systems even more.
