Hindu radicals attack Christians and burn Bibles in India. According to Asia News, Christians were violently attacked last Friday and Sunday in two separate incidents in India. In both cases, Pentecostal churches were ransacked by radical Hindus who set Bibles on fire, beat up church members, and dragged some church members to a Hindu purification ceremony. One of the churches filed complaints with local police, but as is common in these types of cases no one has been arrested.
Dispute escalates between China and Japan. According to Reuters, China sent its first aircraft carrier into formal service this week amid a tense maritime dispute with Japan in a show of force that could worry its neighbors. China cast the formal handing over of the carrier to its navy as a triumphant show of national strength at a time of tensions with Japan over islands claimed by both sides. The risks of military confrontation are scant, but political tensions between Asia's two biggest economies could fester and worries persist about an unintended incident at sea.
Magnitude 6.2 earthquake strikes off the coast of Baja California. According to The Los Angeles Times, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Baja California has quickly been followed by at least two others. The earthquake occurred in the ocean, 47 miles off the coast of Baja California Peninsula in Mexico. Two smaller earthquakes were reported within twelve minutes of the first one. There was no immediate word on damages or injuries.
