Our fasting quote of encouragement today is from Saint Augustine. He said, "Fasting cleanses the soul, raises the mind, subjects one’s flesh to the spirit, renders the heart contrite and humble, scatters the clouds of concupiscence, quenches the fire of lust, and kindles the true light of chastity."
Our fasting devotional today is titled "FIVE STEPS TO A SUCCESSFUL DANIEL FAST" (PART 14) from Susan Gregory, author of the bestselling book "The Daniel Fast".
Today, we will continue looking at planning in greater detail:
As you plan for your fast, be sure to schedule a consistent time to meet with the Lord. Starting the day with quiet time seems to work the best for many people. There are fewer chances of interruptions or delays, and it's also a perfect foundation for the day. But if your situation doesn't allow for the morning, then select a time that is good for you. The key is consistency.
Daniel was a very busy man with all his duties and responsibilities and he was living in a foreign land that had different customs and worshiped false gods. But Daniel still maintained the Jewish practice of morning, midday, and evening prayer. This daily feeding of the spirit enables God to interact with you and the Word of God to guide and direct you.
So be sure to set aside a daily time when you can be one-on-one with the Lord.
