Syrian forces clash with Jordanian soldiers on the border. According to The Telegraph, fighting broke out between Jordanian and Syrian forces in a border region between the two countries late last week. A Syrian opposition activist who witnessed the fighting said armoured vehicles were involved in the clash about 50 miles north of the Jordanian capital of Amman. The fighting began when Syrian troops fired across the border at escaping Syrian refugees.
At least 1,000 families are hit by floods in east Sudan. According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), at least 1,000 families have been affected by flooding in impoverished eastern Sudan, where some communities have been cut off by rising waters. More than 600 families lost their homes in Kass-ala state, while almost 400 others escaped the flooding and sought safety at a refugee camp known as Kilo 26.
The United States and Turkey plan for worst-case scenarios in Syria. According to The Times of Israel, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Turkey's foreign minister said their countries are creating a formal structure to plan for worst-case scenarios in Syria, including a possible chemical weapons attack on regime opponents. They said they will coordinate military, intelligence and political responses to the potential fallout in the case of a chemical attack, which would result in medical emergencies and a likely rise in the number of refugees fleeing Syria.
