'Super-volcanoes' could spell destruction for the world. According to ABC News, super-volcanoes have probably caused more extinctions than asteroids. But until now it has been thought that these giant volcanoes took thousands of years to form before having much effect on the planet. But new research indicates that these catastrophic eruptions, possibly thousands of times more powerful than the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens, may happen only a few hundred years after the volcanoes form. Such an event could make thermonuclear war or global warming seem trivial, spewing untold tons of ash into the atmosphere to block sunlight.

Denmark government passes law allowing church weddings for homosexuals. According to the Christian Post, Denmark's Parliament has approved a law allowing same-sex couples to get married in formal church weddings instead of the short blessing ceremonies that the state's Lutheran Church currently offers. The Danish People's Party, which argued that the government should not be changing the traditional definition of marriage, said that the bill infringed on the right to religious freedom by forcing this change on Christians. One former member of parliament claimed that a recent poll showed that "440,000 members of the church were considering renouncing their membership because of this."
