    Original Air Date:

Indepent Women... Stand Up or Stand Down?

We're doing a follow-up to last weeks show. Can strong women be too independent? Should married women have their own accounts or does that mean they aren't committed to the marriage? Are strong, single, women TOO strong for today's man? Should finances even play a part in relationships? It's part two of our discussion on NowWhat!

  • Date / Time:

Are Independent Women Too DANG Strong for today's Man?

Can strong women be too independent? Should married women have their own bank accounts or does that mean they aren't committed to the marriage?  Are strong women.... married or single... TOO strong for today's man?  Should finances even play a part in relationships or does that kill the romance? It's Part II of our discussion on NowWhat! Blog Talk Radio!

That's right... it is Part II of our discussion about what women really want.  Last week we got in to a heated discussion about whether a woman should have her own resources once she is married.  We also got into a debate about whether strong, independent women may be intimidating to men.  It was too much for one show so they are back…

A true Renaissance woman, my longtime friend and former co-worker Layla Nielsen got them going last week when she expressed the views of many women- that you can be in love, you can love your husband- but you should “have your own money”.  Beautiful, talented and outspoken, Layla is a mother, wife, and successful career woman who will bring her honest and insightful views of love and happiness to the show again this week.  Check out her website at www.hellobeautiful.com which celebrates beautiful, strong, Black women.  In her blog, entitled “Feminist Revealed,” Layla discusses a wide range of topics effecting woman encouraging us to tap into our inner sexuality, power, and wisdom. To keep her "own" money flowing, Layla holds it down in her day job as a Regional Web Manager with Radio One where she manages the sales, marketing, and programming efforts of over 30 radio station websites on the East Coast.

Kendell Renee Kelly is a strikingly beautiful, articulate, strong, independent, intellectual property lawyer.  She specializes in the sports and entertainment industries. So, you would think she is every man’s dream and in fact she is.  But, could the fact that she is so well accomplished be intimidating to some men?  Do independent, single women have to “dumb it down” to find a good man?  Well, Kendell is anything BUT dumb and she makes no excuses for her success.  Kelly runs an unconventional, cutting-edge practice and can tailor make her law expertise to best assist her clients.  You’ll be enlightened and entertained by her no-nonsense take on dating and also the need to protect your assets when getting into a marriage. You can visit her on the web at http://www.kendellkelly.com

Then there will be me, your host, Danielle Ricks.  I like to think of myself as an accomplished career woman, marathon dater (not by choice mind you), and all around seeker of truth regarding male/female dynamics and relationships.  I’ll be keeping the discussion going and the energy flowing.

Join in on the discussion by calling into the show at 347.838.8493 or join the live chat during the show!  If you missed the show... listen to the rebroadcast and leave us a comment.  I'd love to hear from you!

Valentines Day- Getting to the heart of matter

Valentines Day what does it REALLY mean to women? It's not just a day for lovers!

  • Date / Time:

What's Love Got to do with it?

Do men and women think alike when it comes to love? In honor of Cupid's annual visit on February 14, I wanted to talk to some of my sister friends about this thing called love and the day they created to celebrate it.  How important is Valentine's Day anyway?  Do women expect sex on Valentine's Day?  Would we be OK if we didn't get a gift? Is not having a date on Valentine's Day such a horrible thing?  Who should make the plans for the romantic outing and who should pay?  As we countdown to the day meant for lovers we’ll talk about what super busy, dynamic women want for Valentines day and how you can win over... or better yet...win back... your sweetie.  Their answers might surprise you!

My longtime friend and former co-worker Layla Nielsen will be joining me.  Layla reps the Nation’s Capitol, the daughter of a Jazz club owner and an erotic photographer. She is a mother, wife, and successful career woman who has insight on how to keep a good man and bring home the bacon.  She brings real life experiences to her www.hellobeautiful.com blog, and hopes to enlighten beautiful, strong, Black women like you.  In her blog, entitled “Feminist Revealed,” Layla discusses a wide range of topics that effect woman, but with a twist. She encourages women to tap into their inner sexuality, power, and wisdom to tackle ANY and ALL obstacles. You will be pleasantly surprised to hear her definition of a true “feminist.”  For her day job, Layla works as a Regional Web Manager with Radio One where she manages the sales, marketing, and programming efforts of over 30 radio station websites on the East Coast.

    Kendell Renee Kelly
is an intellectual property lawyer and strategist specializing in the sports and entertainment industries.  She is not your typical lawyer and her unconventional, cutting-edge practice has shaped some of the worlds most respected major law firms.  As an entrepreneur and business owner Kendell and I are kindred spirits.  She is single, no kids, dating - sometimes not very successfully, actively evaluating her relationship needs versus relationship wants.  Should you need her services, Kendell’s practice currently focuses on counseling private and corporate clients in set-up, protection, strategic planning, monetization and liquidation of intellectual property assets.  Visit her on the web at http://www.kendellkelly.com
