# * * Xmas oh Jilly, dear sweet Jilly, Can we please move this to e-mail? If i ever do a blog on Judaism I'd like to have all my stuff stored so I don't have to write it all again. That's why i'm begging you to please, please copy and send the last message isent because i didn't save it, and I can't figure out how to find it on Flylady, though everything else is accessible, it seems. No, of course we don't celebrate Xmas. The religion based on the man from Nazereth has nothing to do with Judaism, though he himself was Jewish. We celebrate the day of Judgement (Rosh haShana (NewYear), The day of Atonement and Forgiveness, The feast of Tabernacles, The Additional Day and Joy of Torah, the Passover and Exodus from Egypt, and the feast of Weeks which are all biblically commanded. In addition we celebrate hannukah, the triumph of the Jews over the Greeks; and Purim, the triumph of the Jews over the Persians. These are rabbinicallly ordained. In addition we have five fast days, most of these have to do with various tragedies which befell the Temples in Jerusalem. We have our own calendar whcih determines when our holidays are. Generally hannukah falls in December. It is an 8 day festival of candle-lighting. Two other traditions include "gambling" with spin tops and eating fried foods made with milk/cheese etc. In countires where the non-Jewish neighbors exchanged gifts, that has become a tradition among Jews also. Usually one gift each night. But it is not really part of the holiday, and in many very strict families it is not done. Again, let's move this to e-mail. dabs Dabs I hope this is what you meant. Hugs hun!oxoxoxoxo

Hi Dabs, thank you for helping me understand the Jewish way of life more than I did before. You are very precious. You are a wonderful ambassador for your people. You are always in mine and my Mums prayers. Love and good wishers to you and yours! Do you celebrate Christmas? I hope you don't mind me asking. If not what do you celebrate at that time of the year and do you give each other presents? Jilly oxoxoxoxoxox
