LaVonne McIver James is the founder and executive director of The Churches Making Movies Christian Film Festival, a new film festival   devoted to empowering church-based films.
She believes there is no denying the power of a story well told. This is why it is imperative that Christians tell stories. By the grace of God and with this philosophy in mind, since 2003, she has produced Christian Screenwrite, a contest for spiritually intriguing and redemptive screenplays. Her own screenplay, Rahab: A Hero in Jericho was honored as an official selection of the 2010 Beverly Hills Film Festival.
She is also the founder of Favor Entertainment, a production company formed to produce socially conscious and spiritually intriguing television programs. In addition, she writes about faith in movies in her blog, FaithinFilmsForum.
LaVonne is an active member of her community.  She serves on the board of directors of Calvary Christian School, an elementary school in Newark, New Jersey, and she is a member of Christian Women in Media. LaVonne is an active member of Faith Fellowship Ministries World Outreach Center in Sayreville, New Jersey. She earned an M.A. in public relations from Rowan University. LaVonne resides in northern New Jersey with her husband and their two children
