Tonight's lesson is titled, "Keeping the Church on Target." The scripture text is Matthew 18:15-17, 1 Corinthians 5:1-5, 2 Corinthians 2:5-8. The focus of the lesson is is biblical practice of church discipline is essential to accomplishing the mission of the Church. Church members must live harmoniously with each other, and that can be challenging. Since the time of Adam and Eve, human beings have needed regulations to govern their personal and social relationships. Both self-discipline and imposed discipline have been a vital part of those regulations. The absence of either can result in personal disaster and societal calamity. The regulation of conduct within the church, referred to as church discipline, is an absolute necessity. To ignore, violate, or fail to observe the legitimate limits we place on our own behavior-or that we agree as a group to observe--is destructive to the body of Christ.
