Tonight's lesson is titled Building on the Cornerstone. Scripture is from 1 Peter 2:4-12. How would you like to be given the nickname, "The Rock" by Jesus? Jesus gave that name to Peter(John 1:42),and it must have prompted some deep thinking by the boisterous apostle. Did it mean that Peter was hardheaded? Did Christ think Peter would lie around for others to stumble over? Or was Peter a rock to be used for construction, such as a strong piece of granite? Today's scripture reveals that Peter had learned something from the metaphor implied by his name. As Christians, we need to rely on the Living Stone, Jesus Christ, as lour foundation. And we, too, are to be stones used for building up the Kingdom. We must be willing to move or be moved to a place of service. One rock does not make a building. But as many stones are placed together in the right arrangement, a strong structure takes shape. God intends for us to be like His Son, the Cornerstone. We must become the living stones that comprise the house of God.
