Where You Want To Be A Part Of The Hood! And Neighbors, Friends, And Families Are The Best Part! The CyberHood Watch Partners, Dave & Bill, invite you to join their friends and families in our CyberHood Watch live radio show, every Tuesday morning at 11:00 am MST... Join Dave & Bill as they discuss the Internet security issues of the day relating to your children, families, homes, PC's and mobile communication devices in our CyberHood Watch new Net-Generation of technology, where we all find ourselves as part of the 21 century.

Show Notes

Over the past 2 years we have had the pleasure of having some of the best and brightest authors in the world join us weekly on The CyberHood Watch Radio Show. Take quick tour and see a few of the many CHW Authors that have been guests on CHWradio.com

Dave and Bill feel a very special responsibility in sharing our guests advice, opinions, insights and experiences. It’s our hope that our guests will inspire our CyberHood Watch audience to become active in their local neighborhoods and participate with and learn from their children on how to use the internet safely.

In this process of learning to use the internet safely, parents will be a focal point in the teaching of their children. In this ever-changing New Net-Generation… called the CyberHood, we all find ourselves in the dawning of a brand new decade, and one that requires us to all be good citizens online as well as offline.

What does it mean to be a Responsible CyberCitizen? Being aware of what information we post about ourselves and others online, how we treat others online, and watching out for others while they are online.

With over two years worth of interviews we have had the pleasure of having over 100 guests on our radio show. To see who our guests have been, see our Cyberhood Alumni page.

Thanks to all the authors that have joined us in the past, we have enjoyed your presence and welcome you back at any time. And to the all authors that want to get their message out to a much wider audience through The CyberHood Watch Network with Dave and Bill.  Please contact us, by filling out the Radio Show Request form to get started.

Move Over Chuck Norris - New Kids Role Model - Meet Brett Lechtenberg - A "Responsible CyberCitizen"

I don't know exactly what it is, it could very well be the topic of another show with Brett, but what is it that creates an unspoken respect for martial arts, especially, when the individual is advancing to his seventh degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. And that alone is quite an accomplishment, but coupled with teaching Personal Mastery Martial Arts and empowering children while operating the Family Success Centers is an accomplishment.

After reading Mr. Lechtenberg's accomplishments and the area of mastery, he is the real deal, and walks the talk. Brett Lechtenberg is a teacher; enhancing people's lives with powerful life skills and lessons taught by, his teacher: Grand Master Richard Na. So it makes sense, that Brett would have founded the, "Break The Chain Foundation".

It was established to break the chain of child abuse. As Brett said, "I picked child abuse prevention as our theme because it felt right. I think also that with our business we can actually help to prevent some types of abuse like child abduction etc. because it is part of our curriculum." The foundation has done so well it was recognized as "Exchangeite" of the year for charity work in his community for 2003.

It seems all too often we are reactive to cybercrime, and always two-and-a-half steps behind organized cyber crime and the criminal cyber world. And I don't see us getting in front and preventing or stopping organized cybercrime anytime soon.

We are the majority (80%)... the end-users, and our computers are the foundation of the internet. Its individuals like you and me who dominate the Internet and yet we are the most vulnerable and least protected. It doesn't make sense, and that should be a grave concern. Here's why, there are organized groups that operate software to seek out and take control of your computer. Their goal is to do it  without your knowledge and with the least interference to your computer as possible. What the cybercriminals are taking from you, is your bandwidth, and stealing a portion of your hard drive. Confiscating your bandwidth and hard drive establishes a platform to send out spam and p.o.r.n.o.g.r.a.p.h.y. When this has happens your computer is considered a
zombie, under the control of the thief. When the criminal has stolen tens of thousands of computers he now controls what is called a "botnet" (thousands of zombie computers). It is important to understand the power of a "botnet". An organized group of botnets directed at global infrastructures or a country's infrastructure if a real threat to life support - financial institutions - power grids - airways - real chaos, etc..

So, instead of being so reactive,  let's be proactive and strengthen the 80%, the weak links in the Internet system, people like you and your children, who are not properly protected or educated on how to be safe online and offline as it relates to the Internet.

The CyberHood Watch recognized the significance of providing the education and setting the standards of what it means to be a "Responsible CyberCitizen". So, I like to ask our guests, "What comes to mind when you hear the phrase, "Responsible CyberCitizen"?

Here are Brett's thoughts on what came to mind, and remember people are being asked to think about this for the first time... what would you say? Let us know.

    Brett's response:

To me being a responsible cybercitizen means.

If you use the Internet, you're a citizen of a global community. Being a cyber citizen is like being a citizen of your local community. You have rights and responsibilities like any citizen in any community. Use the Internet to share knowledge that makes people's lives better.

All good citizens should work to stay safe, use good manners and respect the laws. It also means that you will take your cybersafety and security as seriously as you take your personal safety, by doing the following.

    Use anti-virus software

Do not open email from unknown sources-

Use hard-to-guess passwords and keep them private-

    Protect computers with firewalls-

Do not share access to your computers with strangers. Learn about file sharing risks -

Disconnect from the Internet when not in use-

    Back-up your computer regularly-

Regularly download security protection update “patches”-

Help your family to check computer security on a regular basis.-

All of these things will help to ensure your cybersafety. However, as time passes criminals are always
coming up with new ways to cause good people problems. So always be aware of your cybersafety

There are 9 more questions we prepared to ask Brett. These are his responses in writing.

Be sure to listen to the interview to hear what we talked about.
