What keeps you going and wanting to get up every morning? “Capitalism in its proper place is a good system and the market is a good way of bringing money to good ideas, and I really take offense when it’s corrupted” said, Robin Kirk.
Listen carefully to Robin and you’ll hear the intellectual voice of someone who’s an authority. After reading his bio, I wondered how Robin ended up as a Cyber Activist who’s become a citizen investigative journalist and someone to reckon with.
It was in his earlier career when he witnessed a lot of abuse and fraud centered on the State Medicaid Health Care programs. And so, Robin Kirk came up with a better managed and more profitable system. He sold his companies, one of which he took from start-up to over $200 million in three years, and as Robin put it, he indulged himself as a consultant.
As a citizen journalist Robin Kirk has become a Cyber Activist, investigating penny stock fraud. Robin said he had been hit with a SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) lawsuit for his criticizing who he believes are perpetrating a fraud. It’s a lawsuit used by big companies (con artist or organized criminals) with superior financial stature to intimidate and frighten off individuals like Robin, so as not to expose their confidence game. These frauds are not chump change, they run into the billions of dollars just in the penny stock frauds.
Mr. Kirk talked about several types of scams; confidence games, financial scams, affinity scams, and fraudulent investments. SPAM is the preferred method and is predominately coming out of former Russia. SPAM is a massive broadcast of offers of some sort.
According to Robin, the basic package of a scam artist or a confidence man is the same as it has always been; if someone Is offering you something of great value, for no real effort on your part, then run the other way! When Robin was asked,” Why, when we know if it’s too good to be true, do individuals get conned? “ “People want to believe”, said Robin.
How can our listeners protect themselves?
1. On some level, become a citizen journalist, and do your fact checking.
2. If it’s a good deal today, it will be a good deal tomorrow… Cool your jets.
3. Talk to a third party and/or get a second opinion.
People get swept up in the moment, if you don’t take the deal right now, it will never happen again. Verify if it’s such a good deal by calling your attorney or financial adviser.
If it’s a good deal today, it will be a good deal tomorrow. If you are being induced to buy a financial instrument by an entity or someone, simply do a Google search and do some fact checking.
What comes to mind when you hear the phrase, “Responsible CyberCitizen”? “Doing something on the Internet, as opposed to having the Internet feeding you things”, said Robin.
“Media has been unsegmented and placed in the hands of a few powerful groups or corporations. Now there are independent voices like CHWradio that have an Internet wide radio broadcast” said Robin Kirk.
There’s no doubt that Robin Kirk is a responsible cybercitizen.

· Education: Empowers others by sharing what he knows
db Security Inc. announced on CHWradio.com the launch of the new website, ResponsibleCyberCitizen.net, on Thursday, July 31st, 2008. Education – live interactive classes - will be an important component for the new Responsible CyberCitizen community. “Education is paramount and the key to our civilization…”, said Robin.
The RCC community will be a sounding board for children, families, and professionals to communicate and effect change on a Local - State - and Federal level. We can make responsible changes and preserve the intent of the Internet.
We welcome individuals like Robin Kirk to be a voice and own a presence at www.ResponsibleCyberCitizen.net. How about a list of current penny stock frauds and any other schemes to stay clear of.

Oleg's security career began at the University as part of a research group in Artificial Intelligence (AI). He was involved with the break-ins with AI. He was involved with voice recognition and encryption. Something Oleg said was an interesting observation, "the Internet is the management of phone lines and computers and both systems are insecure." Oleg was emphatic about one thing and that is the Internet will never be secure.
"Bill and I believe that trying to keep up with the cybercriminals is reactive and a chase after the fact. It makes more sense to be proactive, which is why we believe in empowering and teaching children and their families how to become "Responsible CyberCitizens". My first question is, “What comes to mind when you hear the phrase, Responsible Cybercitizen"? Oleg's comment was, "First of all, it's a very good term. Actually, when I’m talking about similar topics I usually use the term "Knowledgeable Internet User", but yours actually better describes what needs to be done in this regards."
A responsible cybercitizen is an individual who finds the time to educate himself/herself about the right and wrong way of using the Internet. An individual needs to understand how to use the Internet and also to instruct their children on the proper use of the Internet. Oleg equated the process of becoming licensed to drive a car to establishing a procedure to qualify and pass an examination for the proper use of the Internet. That is something Bill and I have brought up in the past. Like Oleg says, "We teach our children not to take candy from strangers and how to dial 911 but, we don't teach them how to be safe on the Internet." There needs to be some safety standard to evaluate the competency level before allowing our children to jump on and access the Internet without some level of safety..
A "Responsible CyberCitizen" raises the awareness of the right ways and wrong ways to use the internet.
What are the wrong ways to use the Internet? If you are on a website and just close the browser, you are leaving yourself and all your personal information on your computer open for hackers to use the same session and "cookie poisoning" to go to your accounts and use them. Be sure the sites you visit are secure. You will note a "https" in your web browser. If not all the information you send is visible to everyone else.
If you can predict your opponents move you can defend against it. This is one comment Oleg had to say about his involvement with martial arts. He also believes it sharpens his strategic skills in his performance when dealing with security issues. Like Brett Lechtenberg, a sixth degree black belt, who was our guest a couple of weeks ago also uses his skills to build character in children which The CyberHood Watch believes will ultimately translates into responsible cybercitizens.
Oleg's Russian Martial Arts defense system is based on the principal of the circle, which is the symbol of perfection in the Eastern philosophy. The circle is important because it is difficult to penetrate; it has to be direct and most attempts will only scratch the surface and be ineffective. Oleg applies these philosophies in his work. Two of the principles he uses is maximum effect with minimum effort and second is looking at the security system is close to the circle principal used in the Russian Martial Arts. By this Oleg means there are certain points that could allow a direct hit to the security circle, so you patch those areas to prevent the direct hit; they may scratch you but, they will not be effective.
Some of the future services that Oleg believes are on the horizon are online training and online education on anything you want to cover or learn about a particular subject. The quality and the interface of the classroom will be a improvement. Another service or trend will be related to online banking and the interfacing with its customers; better features, better custom reports, and comprehensive support functions to improve the communications with their clients. A final future trend will be firewalls and the security they will offer against malware.
If you’re starting an online business you need to find out what Oleg recommends for you and your customer to stay safe. You can find out what Oleg said at 23 minutes 35 seconds into the CHW radio show. Even if you have a firewall, anti-virus, or anti-spyware you still are not fully protected... learn more of Oleg says to do.
Managed Security Service; what is it? And what does Oleg think about the use of remote access and what his concerns are? Fast forward to 31 minutes and 46 seconds.
The Internet is a very dangerous weapon and could be more dangerous than a weapon of mass destruction because with the Internet almost every service is operated remotely and if you can penetrate those systems you can shut down entire cities, you can get access to any data bases you want. You can push the button that will lead the country to another war.
We can make a difference in securing the Internet and protecting our country. 41 minutes into the show.
