  Invisus Is The Rudder - Become A "Responsible Cybercitizen"... Don't Be Complacent

  It all began for James Harrison and Jeff Nichols about eight years ago when they were pummeled by hackers at least 350 times over a period of a few days. It was this event that brought about awareness that if this was happening to them it was probably happening to others. The rest is history.
  
  Invisus (Latin derivative for "invisible") and the Invisus service was launched for the protection of families and small business owners. According to James, "you can't have good security unless you have good care". He considers Invisus the "Universal Help Desk" for a common issue. The idea is to keep your computer invisible to the Internet.
  
  We've heard it before but, When asked what it meant to be a "Responsible Cybercitizen" it is ultimately that if you are not part of the solution then you are part of the problem. We're all citizens in a virtual world and by not being part of the problem and being part of the solution you are participating in being a responsible cybercitizen.
  
  If you lack ongoing good security, not just off-the-shelf out of the box technology, chances are your computer will become one of millions of "zombie" computers and a "zombie soldier" in their army of organized cybercriminals. A responsible cybercitizen is not a onetime fix of loading computer security software. If you're not willing to police yourself and leaving it to others (unless the others are experts in security service like Invisus), you are being irresponsible and allowing organized crime to use your computer to cause harm to others.
  
  Today, it's important to have a one-stop resource. If not, you as an Internet citizen will be constantly leap-frogging just to keep up with the problem. The bad guys are depending on the fact that you can't personally keep pace, nor want to, so you'll do little or nothing. And if you do throw on some off-the-shelf software thinking you are protecting yourself it's only a false sense of security and the bad guys are depending on it.
  
  If you're thinking the government will provide a way to protect you, that's not going to happen. According to Jeff the FBI in Utah won't take on a case unless it's over a half million dollars and the Attorney General won't take notice unless it's $250,000 or more. The Internet is a global community and law enforcement can't keep-up. Cybercrime is now more profitable than drug-trafficking in the U.S. and estimated to be $105 billion a year.
  
  Hackers are more sophisticated not less sophisticated. Consumers need a better way and not do it alone any longer. If you're looking for a hassle-free computing experience, Invisus provides the ongoing security care and also raises your status to a "Responsible Cybercitizen". Remember Jeff's story about the lady that called in upset that her computer had been infected with an email from Germany. "Do you know anyone in Germany" Jeff asked. "No", she replied. "Do you speak German" Jeff asked. "No" she replied. Jeff asked her, "Then why did you open it"? "Because someone sent it to me" she replied. So, as a responsible cybercitizen, you still need to learn and understand the simple things of what not to do to avoid becoming a victim.
  
  According to Jami, if he could wave a magic wand and change one thing, it would be peoples complacency with protecting their children and their families. Complacency is a killer; it is our nemesis to becoming responsible cybercitizens. Jami's likens our computers without proper security to a sailing ship being tossed by the seas without a rudder. Our PCs are large sails that catches everything out there and at the mercy of those who will do us harm. It's not pleasant the things can happen to you and your family if you become a victim.
  
  The solution to complacency is doing something about it, taking action and getting off our rear-ends and become "Responsible Cybercitizens".

  He Is Grateful For Our CyberHood Watch And Would Be Glad To Come Back Again - Thank You Stephen Dean

  
  
  
  Bill and I know and believe we are making a difference but, it's not until you have an individual like Stephen Dean, Peabody Award winning investigative reporter say, that he is grateful for our CyberHood Watch program and happy to come back, then it becomes validated from one that is an authority. Thanks Stephen.
  
  Stephen Dean is the lead investigative reporter for NBC station KPRC TV. Mr. Dean was a guest of the CyberHood Watch radio show and we covered a lot of subject matter. You can download the entire show at WWW.CHWradio.com.
  
  Stephen covered how pedophiles will tip-toe up to your child, check them out and begin the process of "grooming" for their next victim. Don't make the mistake thinking your child is smart enough. They are no match for seasoned criminal pedophiles, who may be grooming as many as eight children at one time.
  
  Kids know about the term "stranger-danger" (a term that Nancy McBride, National Safety Director for NCEMC, would like to see removed from the English language), they know about creeps on the Internet but, they don't feel they are strangers because of the many hours they have spent together on the Internet. These predators understand all too well the psychology of a young mind. A phrase like, "I'm a school teacher, you need to be careful in chat rooms, I know and understand your age group", simple phrase but, it lowers the resistance of the child.
  
  Stephen is a strong proponent of monitoring software and believes parents should not get hung up on the issue of privacy. Bill and I recently interviewed Ken Shallcross from PC Pandora on this very subject. It would behoove parents to read the article in the New York Times.
  
  Stephen talked about how current tips are not practical any longer and that we need to think past the typical tips and look for emotional behavior. If your child seems upset online, ask your child why and listen closely to their response. If it's a direct and practical answer like, "I'm upset with Sally because she's being a jerk" then chances are its normal. However, if the response is a lot of uhmms and ahhs and a brush-off, chances are you need to investigate.
  
  When Stephen asked the Attorney General of the United States about these issues it was said that their concerns were terrorists, which indicates that there focus is not on the problem of predators and pedophiles on the Internet. Until we can capture the attention of our leaders regarding these problems we will not see the necessary enforcement of the laws. It's going to take a concerted effort of individuals to bring it to the attention of our leaders on all levels of government.
  
  When asked at what age to talk to our children about Internet dangers, Stephen's immediate response was at the very moment they get on the computer and even before if possible. It's not about explaining the birds and the bees; it's about explaining the dangers on the Internet. They need to know that there are bad people on the Internet who want to hurt children.
  
  Mr. Dean was adamant that parents shouldn't show a complete dismissal in the interest of their children online activities. Your kids will see this dismissal as a disconnect and when they need to talk about something that is bothering them, the open communication needed is lost. Don't put up a disconnect, parents need to be interested.
  
  Open communication is a key to prevention.

  A Mother's Perspective, A Must For Parenting Adolecense And Teens On The Internet And Much More!!!

  As parents you've got to stop passing the buck. Your children's safety online and offline are your responsibilities. Your kids may be technically savvy but, they don't have a parents mind. So, who do want teaching them? Or better yet, who's going to monitor them? Would you send a young child or adolescent out on a road trip without a chaperon?  Neither would I. Do you remember your school trips and how much went even on even with adult supervision? Don't leave the Internet monitoring to someone else, or your kids.
  
  When you hear that the Attorney General has stepped in to launch an investigation regarding the conduct and/or incidents being linked to social networking sites, it's not the time to breathe a sigh of relief. Neither the Attorney General nor the social networking sites are babysitting your kids.
  
  The Internet can be a dangerous place for young adolescent minds, why do you think predators stalk the Internet? As parents you have the responsibility to be there to monitor your kids' journey on the Internet and make sure it's a safe one.
