Dave and Bill feel a very special responsibility in sharing our guests advice, opinions, insights and experiences. It’s our hope that our guests will inspire our CyberHood Watch audience to become active in their local neighborhoods and participate with and learn from their children on how to use the internet safely.

 

In this process of learning to use the internet safely, parents will be a focal point in the teaching of their children. In this ever-changing New Net-Generation… called the CyberHood, we all find ourselves in the dawning of a brand new decade, and one that requires us to all be good citizens online as well as offline.

 

What does it mean to be a Responsible CyberCitizen? Being aware of what information we post about ourselves and others online, how we treat others online, and watching out for others while they are online.

    Jacob Anderson became concerned about how to protect children from predators and strangers online. He began Kids Email in 2007 to offer parents a way to protect their children online.

     

    Jacob Andersen's 9-year-old relative was a sweet and trusting child. And when the child began to communicate with a stranger online, the child's parents and Andersen realized how easy it was for predators and others to reach children on the Internet.

     

    "Luckily, there was nothing sexual in the communication," Anderson said. "But the letters were too personal for my relative to feel comfortable with. And he was always careful with his computer. It was in the public place and he monitored his children's accounts."

    Dave and Bill Interview with Derek VanLuchene

    Derek VanLuchene is the President of the Ryan United Organization - Derek has a unique perspective as a family member of the victim and also a law enforcement officer involved in the fight against child predators.

     

    Over 22 years a on August 31, 1987, while playing in his back yard in a rural Montana town, 8 year old Ryan VanLuchene was kidnapped, sexually assaulted and murdered by a repeat sex offender. The offender who murdered Ryan had been out of prison just a few weeks for a past sexual assault against a 13 year old boy.

     

    When Ryan went missing the community of Libby, Montana came together to look for Ryan. Thanks to the community, and the excellent work of a Sheriffs detective, Ryans body was recovered and the offender was arrested.
