Sedona, AZ – Though conventional medicine continues to make strides in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, the disease still carries the stigma of a “death sentence.” As a result of this fear, we perceive cancer as an “enemy” we must “battle” so we can be a “survivor.” But when we use this type of language, our mentality is already that of a victim; cancer is something that’s happening to us, a punishment.

In any war, one side may emerge victorious, but both sides suffer tremendous losses. The same is true when treating cancer: innocent healthy cells are caught up in the fray. So how can we reach a peaceful accord before the fight?

“This is not about a fight, or a battle or a war,” says Kelly Hansen. “My friends would say ‘You can beat this,’ but it’s not about defeating cancer, it’s about understanding cancer, understanding what you’re meant to do with it, not about it.”

Kelly is a two-time breast cancer survivor and the founder of Healing Cancer Now, a holistic coaching practice dedicated to inspiring and motivating individuals to perceive their disease as an opportunity for true healing and a catalyst for embracing a more meaningful life.

“Cancer offers us an opportunity to get back on track with the life we’re meant to be,” says Kelly. “You can look back and see the headaches, exhaustion and anxiety. There were signposts along the way. Cancer is not a punishment. It’s the result of you punishing yourself. Now it’s time to nurture yourself.”
