Interview with John Friedman - CSR transformation from the inside out

    John Friedman

“Yvette is a highly motivated, intelligent and thoughtful interviewer. Her knowledge of CSR is impressive, as is her ability to 'connect' with people.” February 16, 2009 John Friedman, Chair, Board of Directors, Sustainable Business Network of Washington

I was recently honored to interview one of my LinkedIn contacts who has demonstrated himself to be well connected to those who are practicing what it means to BE THE CHANGE. This made me curious about what John himself was really about.

He is an integral part of SBNOW leading the way for sustainable businesses ready to take the leap. This was one of the things we discussed in our interview. Of course, I see these interviews as tea chats. Since I rarely drink coffee now - saving it for special occasions as some might do with Champagne, it is tea that is my daily companion for the last few years. But I digress....

In addition we talked about our shared interest in how PR had changed. John is the author of "The New PR" Web 2.0, I believe, will mean the death of Spin PR - thank goodness. Companies must evolve the way they reach customers and those that thrive will do so because they succeed in nurturing relationships with customers, employees, suppliers, etc. Not just in policy (on paper) in the ways that they actually operate, but what are the obstacles? What are the points of resistance?

Talking with John was easy and fluid - our shared passion for CSR and building sustainable communities is evident in the easy flow of our dialogue. He represents the kind of passionate knowledge that gives value to my social network and the reason that I have such appreciation for it.

    Dialogue with Michel Bauwens

I know the time is odd but it is worth it for those that are able to join live. The reason for the 2am show is that we have a 12hour time difference and this worked best for both of us. Michel is best known as the founder of P2P Foundation, this is where I first encountered his work. Since then I have become increasingly interested in the implications of his work in the transformation of organizations in the face of the level of innovation needed to address our current challenges. This is one of the things Michel will talk about when you join us.

    Economic Insights from Bernard Lietaer

Not everyone is running scared or clinging desperately to what is failing. Yes, there are some who are charting the way forward with solutions that will be fundamental to shaping the infrastuctures needed. Mr. Lietaer will discuss the counter-intuitive finding on the relationship between community values and money. He will touch on the stories that led him to contribute to his latest white paper and new book published in French in December 2008 (due out in English this year).

Exploring Creation with Artist Kushlani Hall PhD

We have the chance to talk with artist and physicist Kushlani Hall. Kushlani will share insights about the creative process and her journey as an artist. Where does she find inspiration? What moves her from one medium to another? How has she expanded her technical knowledge base as an artist? Join Mailing List Kushlani Hall Kushlani Hall has been painting for more than fifteen years. Her encaustics on the other hand have more earthy colors, browns, greens and subtle hues of the primaries. She's passionate about all three of the media. She loves oil color for the textures, colors and the forgiving nature of it. She's passionate about the brilliant colors and depth the oil pastels offer. She adores encaustics for the immediacy of it and the textures and actual pieces of nature that can be collaged in to an encaustic painting. Another passion of hers is making exquisite jewelry. She calls them unique pieces of art that you can wear. She is known for her beautiful color schemes and her unique designs in jewelry. Her style is very organic and is very close to nature. She has won awards both for her paintings and jewelry. She was born and raised in Sri Lanka. http://www.kushlanihall.com
